Case Study: Procurement and Configuration![]() Focusing on the Process not the Product
An innovative distribution process helped improve workflow efficiency for a major property
and casualty insurer.
The Client
Based in the Midwest, the client is one of the leading property and casualty insurers in the country, providing a broad range of insurance products to millions of households through a national agency force.
The Situation
The client was looking to improve the efficiency of supplying commodity computer products (such as toner) to its vast agency network. At the same time, the client wanted to improve the accuracy of budgeting and forecasting. The company was open to outsourcing the process if it made business and economic sense. The challenge was finding a partner who could design a fully automated web-based solution that could streamline the distribution of products while simultaneously managing an agency budget based on prior year sales.
The Sayers Contribution
The client originally considered Sayers because of its MBE status and the client’s commitment to diversity. The client and Sayers teamed up to design a customized process and establish quality and budgeting standards that set the stage for the development of an online ordering system. HP and Lexmark were selected as the technology partners that could meet the product, pricing and delivery requirements. The solution included a web-based ordering system that improved operating efficiency and customer service.
The Impact
The client estimates the increased efficiency has resulted in annual savings of millions of dollars—a combination of improved purchasing and reduced waste. The value the client places on having a more productive and efficient agency plant is also significant and sustaining. The customized process has been revised and updated several times over the past 16 years and continues to be impactful. |
